Grocery prices are a serious issue, in 2017 Coles claimed that you could get a meal for al family of four, for $10, nowadays $10 in Coles could get you 450ml of stain remover. People most impacted by this issue are people who don’t have enough money to afford a meal for themselves. This is a problem for me because I think everyone deserves a meal for themselves and also the fact that it only boosts company profit a little bit. Sure, you’ll get more money from individual sales, but you’re losing money in the long run, because people will soon go to the inevitable store that sells the same things you’re sell for less.
I think this problem is caused by the cost-of-living crisis, in fact I would go as far to say the crisis goes together. In the last six years, several factors have changed what we pay for essential items, like food. The pandemic, cuts to the supply chain, floods and energy disruptions caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The price on fertiliser, used on farms also soared, which caused the price farmers needed to pay to produce food, this soar in price made supermarkets up their prices one again.
List of demands
- The government needs to put pressure on supermarkets to lower grocery prices.
- Supermarkets need to lower prices for groceries.
- More diversity in supermarkets and style accordingly
